The streets around the larger of the three harbours in the centre of the map are the most popular with tourists. Each evening in Summer on the Cours Des Dames on the left you can see many different street artists and exhibitions, there are also a couple of hotels on this street which offer rooms with a view of the port.

The Quai Duperre has many bars and restaurants and is generally the best place to go if you would like to sit and eat, or even just have a coffee, the view is directly across the La Rochelle's port. The main shopping area and the most architecturally beautiful area is just behind the Quai Duperre.

Another nice place to eat is the Quai du Gabut (center - right on the map), there are plenty of restaurants with views across the smaller of the two harbours. Most of them have seating outside.
