Camping La Rochelle

Camping in La Rochelle is possible at the town's municipal campsite.

It is located on the Avenue Michel Crepeau which runs along the south side of the harbour. There seems to be only one campsite in town but it is central enough that you can walk into La Rochelle and back quite easily. No photographs at the moment as the site was undergoing refurbishment in late February when I visited. The campsite has quite a few pitches but in summer it fills up really quickly due to the popularity of the town and it's proximity to the center. It is also walking distance from the train station, and a 5km taxi ride from the airport. I cannot find a web address for you, they probably do not need to advertise, it's so busy.

5km outside the town you'll find Camping Beaulieu 3 Rue Baillac, 17138 Puilboreau. 0033 546 680 438 Well equipped but not really walking distance into town.

On the right there are some pictures of a really nice campsite situated close to La Rochelle. It is a 25 minute drive to the north on the road which runs through Marans. It is a large site with facilities and internet. There are plenty of pitches, it has a swimming pool situated at the entrance which doesn't seem to belong to the campsite but is certainly available for the campers to use. Within walking distance you'll find a supermarket which is large enough to stock everything you'll need. There are boats for hire in Marans which you can use to explore the surrounding canals. These boats do not require a license.

Alternatively, if you go across to the Ile de Re you'll find a few campsites located along the Rivedoux Plage. However do be aware of the tolls going across the bridge as they can be excessive and mount up if you wish to go into La Rochelle in the evenings.
